The first match of the new season was played on a pudding of a wicket at the Phoenix Sports Ground, Brinsworth. Winning the toss and electing to bat first, Bayfield struggled early on against some tight opening bowling from Little Matlock. An excellent stand between Paul Kenny and Wayne Lomas put Bayfield on the way to a defendable total of 115 for 7. An excellent 22 over spell from Kevin Brashaw, backed up by tight bowling at the other end meant that Little Matlock were restricted to 96 for 8 off their 44 overs, with Bayfield having the chances to finish off the match, but not managing to hold their catches.
