Dire, absolutely dire. Bayfield capitulated to bottom of the league Wincobank in an extremely sad fashion. Winning the toss and putting Wincobank into bat on a very green wicket, a tidy start (other then Chris Jones' usual plethora of wides) from Bayfield promised a low total, but some middle order hitting (and extras) meant that Wincobank finished with a useful (if rather fortunate) 98 for 7 from their 44 overs. It was always going to be tough ask on such a bowling wicket, but Bayfield lacked the application to even make the game a close run thing. A golden duck for Nigel Oakes (the first for the team this year as far as I can recall) was followed by woeful batting and extravagant shot making that really were not called for under the circumstances. The match ended when Lloyd Birkhead, who had gamely taken to the field in an oversize helmet(!) was bowled with some 18 overs remaining. Was there a man of the match? - Don't make me laugh.
